TIGHTEN UP is the realization of a year-long dream; launching a label imprint specializing in Jamaican music. With focus on that of original ska/rocksteady and reggae, as well as modernized versions of the genres, TIGHTEN UP sets out to play a role of both historic and contemporary outlet.

In perfect allignment with SCREAMING RECORDS each TIGHTEN UP release will come in limited and hand numbered vinyl editions. Our primary mission is to keep a steady flow of 7" single releases, in a regular series format, but our vision is to branch out and include the full length format.

In order to translate the genres' aesthetics into artwork we have been very keen on involving an artist fully capable of looking both back through the annals of history as well as forward. Give respectable nods to where it all started while having a thorough understanding of where the genre is today. Therefore we are beyond ecstatic announcing that the artist Horace Panter, also of The Specials fame, has designed the artwork for the vinyl label which also constitutes our actual logo design. Iconography is a unifying theme in Horace Panter’s artwork and all his paintings pay homage to the traditional forms of ‘iconographic writing’ but with a contemporary twist. And what better way to visually explain what we’re trying to achieve than with a pair of unlaced boots!
